Calling all young people and youth organisations in Greater Manchester

August 24, 2012 Leave a comment

Greater Manchester Youth Network are currently asking young people and youth organisations for their views about youth unemployment. The information provided will help to develop ideas for a new and different way of supporting young people to increase their chances of finding work that could be funded as part of the Talent Match programme that will start in the summer of 2013.

The young person consultation survey can be found here:
www.surveymonkey.com/s/gmtalentmatchyouthconsultation

The youth organisation consultation survey can be found here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/gmtalentmatchyouthorganisationconsultation

Talent Match is a new Big Lottery programme targeting 21 LEP areas with the highest numbers of 18-24 year olds not in education, employment or training. GMCVO is co-ordinating the development of a delivery partnership which will undertake the programme design for Talent Match in Greater Manchester. More information can be found here www.gmcvo.org.uk/talent-match-get-involved-and-share-your-ideas

Please note: if you have a group of young people who meet regularly, GMYN would be happy to run a focus group to give the young people the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions, as an alternative to completing the online survey. Please email talentmatch@gmyn.co.uk

GMYN will also be developing a Talent Match Youth Panel. This group will volunteer throughout the different phases of the project development to ensure the entire process is driven and supported by young people. Please get in touch if you’d be interested in taking part.

Advertise your voluntary opportunities via GMYN

April 5, 2012 Leave a comment

Are you looking to recruit young volunteers in Greater Manchester? Greater Manchester Youth Network will advertise your opportunities for free. We will post them onto our Facebook page and our website, plus pass on the information directly to the young people we work with. As well as working with individuals who are interested in volunteering, we regularly have teams of young people who are available for one-off volunteering activities, such as clean-up days, fundraising events, conservation work, etc. so get in touch if you could benefit from the help of one of these teams.

If you’d like to advertise an opportunity via GMYN send the details in an email to info@gmyn.co.uk and we will send you an organisation registration form.

GMYN is five years old today!

February 27, 2012 Leave a comment

We’re celebrating our fifth birthday today!

In five years Greater Manchester Youth Network has worked with well over 7000 young people, supported most of them to carry out some sort of social action, helped hundreds of organisations by linking them with young volunteers and built some really positive relationships. We hope to continue working, in partnership with others, for another five years and more.

We’d like to thank everyone who has, and continues to, support us – we can’t do it without you!

Access to Volunteering Fund

April 13, 2010 Comments off

Access to VolunteeringAccess to Volunteering aims to increase the number of disabled people volunteering by providing grants to support organisations. Money is provided by the Office of the Third Sector with funds being offered in three test areas – Greater London, North West and West Midlands. Applications can be submitted online, by e-mail, phone or post. The first round of funding has now been successfully allocated with 40 organisations receiving grants of up to £5,000. We are pleased to announce that Greater Manchester Youth Network has been awarded £5000 to allow us to allocate grants to other organisations to support them to overcome some of the barriers that stop them being able to involve disabled volunteers.

Any Public or Third Sector organisation based in Greater Manchester that involves or plans to involve disabled volunteers can apply to Greater Manchester Youth Network for a grant. Grants can be used to cover the following:

  • Special aids and equipment, such as office/workplace furniture/equipment or adaptive IT technologies;
  • Adaptations to premises or existing equipment;
  • Travel costs for volunteers who have difficulty accessing public transport.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Friday 4th June. For more information or to request and application pack, please contact Greater Manchester Youth Network on 0161 274 3299.

More information about the Access to Volunteering Fund, how to apply and successful bids is available online at www.accesstovolunteering.org or via the helpline 03000 123 346.

GMYN’s new website

November 4, 2009 Comments off

Thanks to a very useful training course delivered by the GIO project in Manchester, we’ve been able to create this wonderful new website that will allow everyone at GMYN, and beyond, to contribute to. We’ll be working on the site and hope to move over from our existing site (www.gmyn.co.uk) in March 2010.
