Access to Volunteering Fund

April 13, 2010

Access to VolunteeringAccess to Volunteering aims to increase the number of disabled people volunteering by providing grants to support organisations. Money is provided by the Office of the Third Sector with funds being offered in three test areas – Greater London, North West and West Midlands. Applications can be submitted online, by e-mail, phone or post. The first round of funding has now been successfully allocated with 40 organisations receiving grants of up to £5,000. We are pleased to announce that Greater Manchester Youth Network has been awarded £5000 to allow us to allocate grants to other organisations to support them to overcome some of the barriers that stop them being able to involve disabled volunteers.

Any Public or Third Sector organisation based in Greater Manchester that involves or plans to involve disabled volunteers can apply to Greater Manchester Youth Network for a grant. Grants can be used to cover the following:

  • Special aids and equipment, such as office/workplace furniture/equipment or adaptive IT technologies;
  • Adaptations to premises or existing equipment;
  • Travel costs for volunteers who have difficulty accessing public transport.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Friday 4th June. For more information or to request and application pack, please contact Greater Manchester Youth Network on 0161 274 3299.

More information about the Access to Volunteering Fund, how to apply and successful bids is available online at www.accesstovolunteering.org or via the helpline 03000 123 346.
